Symptoms of depression

Changes in appetite and weight

Weight and appetite can fluctuate for people with depression. This experience may be different for each person. Some people will have an increased appetite and gain weight, while others won’t be hungry and will lose weight.

Lost interest

Depression can take the pleasure or enjoyment out of the things you love. A loss of interest or withdrawal from activities that you once looked forward to — sports, hobbies, or going out with friends — is yet another telltale sign of major depression.

Anxiety

If you have been feeling down and you just can't seem to shake it - the things that have made you happy are no longer of interest or do not have the same effect - then its not just sadness, its anxiety. Anxiety and depression can occur together.

Hopeless outlook

Major depression is a mood disorder that affects the way you feel about life in general. Having a hopeless or helpless outlook on your life is the most common symptom of depression. When hopelessness kicks in make sure you kick it out!

sleeping problems

Part of the reason you might stop doing things you enjoy is because you feel very tired. Depression often comes with a lack of energy and an overwhelming feeling of fatigue, which can be among the most debilitating symptoms of depression.

Uncontrollable emotions

One minute it’s an outburst of anger. The next you’re crying uncontrollably. Nothing outside of you prompted the change, but your emotions are up and down at a moment’s notice. Depression can cause mood swings.

buddies recommending OUR coaching Sessions

"I was stuck in a never ending maze of sadness and loneliness. Depression can be what you are suffering from and you might never be aware. Lulu helped me in the free counseling session and it was enough for me. When I look back, I wonder why I never considered counselling"

"Its easy to notice the little changes that occur in your life and fail to recognise the big problems developing inside of your mind. My postnatal depression problem came about unexpectedly and grew to be a very big problem to such an extent that I was a danger to my own child. Counselling is the way to go"
